1. What is sandblasting?
Sandblasting is a cleaning process by which rust, paint and scale can be removed from any surface without damaging it.
The process involves eroding the most superficial part of a material by abrasion through a jet of sand and air.
Different types of abrasives are used, at different grain sizes, depending on the material to be treated.
Our products are suitable for two types of sandblasting:
- dry sandblasting: a high-speed jet of air and abrasive material is directed against the surface to be treated;
- sandblasting with a humidifier: allows the dust produced by dry sandblasting to be broken down using water.
2. When is dry sandblasting recommended?
Dry sandblasting is an industrial, mechanical and construction process that is recommended in order to clean and prepare materials for subsequent treatment (painting etc.) or to make engravings on stone, marble, ceramic, glass or wood artifacts.
3. When is sandblasting with a humidifier recommended?
Sandblasting with a humidifier is a method that allows the abatement of process dusts. It is recommended whenever it is not possible to perform the blasting process in an open place or in a blasting booth.
4. What types of processing can be done with free jet sandblasting machines? And with which abrasives?
Thanks to the use of free jet sandblasting machines, multiple surfaces can be treated:
- wood: stripping, unplaster and authenticating by bringing out the grain with silica sands of grit not exceeding 0.35-0.40 mm;
- marble: etch and brush smooth surfaces so that they become rough with quartzites and silica sands of grain size 0.7 to 1.2 mm;
- metalwork: sandblast before subsequent painting treatment with SA2, SA2.5, SA3 blasting grades using metal grits from 0.5 to 0.9 mm or restore old equipment using any type of abrasive;
- concrete: unplaster and seal-cleaning to restore facades, exposed bricks, porphyries, exposed stones and pavements to their original state using silica sands and quartzites from 0.7 to 1.3 mm;
- glass: decoration and satin-finishing using corundum and garnet in very fine grains from 0.6 to 0.5 mm;
- clothing: treatment of worn and aged denim.
5. How many liters of air are needed for the sandblasting machine to work properly?
Depending on the amount of air produced by the compressor, it is advisable to use the associated nozzles, the detail of which can be found in the following table.
